WEIGHTED LOTTERY
Consistent with Section 5204(a)(1) of ESEA, the NYSED Weighted Lottery Generator is designed to give slightly better chances for admission to a subset of educationally disadvantaged students. The Bronx ASCS will use a weighted lottery for English language learners (ELLs). This gives additional weight to ELL students but does not reserve or set aside seats for students in the preference category (does not guarantee a seat). Students who meet the criteria in any of the definitions listed below will be given TWO tickets for the lottery. 1) My child's native language is not English. 2) My child has difficulty with English because another language is spoken at home. 3) My child's current school has told me he/she is an English Language Learner (ELL).
